CBU comment: On Representative Rehberg’s comments website (see link below), under  The Butte Silver Bow Association Groups Meeting in Support of the bill, the statement “Sun Mountain Lumber tried to get CBU to the table and they refused to meet.”  is a false statement. CBU requested and met with Sun Mountain Lumber on two occasions when Sun Mountain was pushing the Beaverhead-Deerlodge Partnership plan. CBU was asked to sign onto the plan, but the B-D-P would not welcome any changes from CBU and its members.  CBU could not support the plan due to absence of hard release language  guaranteeing logging and eliminate litigation from other environmental groups. But the plan did guarantee wilderness. This was a lopsided plan. Other issues with the plan would result in losses to multiple use, affect local economies , land owner rights, and State water rights. Many groups, local governments, and land management agencies were not asked to be part of the crafting of this bill. It is time to consider Representative Rehberg’s request to meet with Senator Tester and the public.

Invitation Sent

After 22 public meetings held by Representative Denny Rehberg in Montana, Denny has posted the comments he received from Montana citizens at the following web link.

Representative Rehberg has invited Senator Tester to meet at an open meeting in Montana. Denny believes the back door meetings should stop and the public should be involved in the discussions of Senator Tester’s wilderness legislation.

Butte Silverbow Chief Executive officer, Paul Babb, has sent an invitation to both Senator Tester and Representative Rehberg to meet in Butte. The Butte Civic Center has been offered to accommodate the large amount of people interested in this important issue.

Representative Rehberg has expressed his desire to attend such a meeting but Senator Tester continues to submit editorials in an attempt to sell the idea of more wilderness to the people of Montana and politicize the issue rather than listening to Montanans.

Contact one of Senator Tester’s offices at the following numbers to urge him to accept the invitation to attend a public meeting with Representative Rehberg.
